Entry #5. Advertising Chaos
Advertising always has and always will be a staple in media. It's all around us and this ad is no different (Mayhem). I believe the purpose of the ad is to make one think that people aren't paying as much attention as they should or there are unforeseen forces that people can't plan for. I also think that the other is trying to show that one can live even more lively because they are sound of mind and in this case, the guy is insured so he knows he's ok if he got in the same accident. In the ad, the man in front of the Allstate man got into a car accident because he was paying too much attention to the car behind him. As the Allstate man passed by he stated that the man's insurance won't cover that but Allstate would. I think the author is trying to promote a livelier lifestyle because the Allstate man was fearless on the road and was basically an inch away from the car in front of him with no fear of any consequences. The target audience could be people that are really into football. The Allstate man had plenty of football gear in his car and he was talking about tailgating. He was also talking about tailgating while he was driving so his message could be about football fans getting into accidents while tailgating. Americans want to be safe and insured in this type of accident and if their insurance can't cover that possibility then they would want to switch to Allstate. People might think it is funny because of how carefree and nonchalant the Allstate man was especially since he was driving so close to the man in front of him. It was designed to target people who like tailgating especially football fans as there was football equipment in the car. I see the Allstate man driving with football gear, then he is tailgating the man in front of him, then the man gets in an accident, finally, the Allstate man drives by and is free of mind because Allstate has him covered. It was set up that way to show the difference between the two men. The tone was fun and easy-going and was meant to make the viewer laugh.
I watched that ad what I got out of is always be careful when your driving but yes you are right.
ReplyDeleteYour analysis of the commercial was great. Some accidents can be prevented when people focus on what's in front of them instead of what's behind them.
